we live in the shadow of a giant gun
souls of schoolchildren occasionally eclipse it
it chafes us outside and in
are we hypersensitive?

we read a splattered "Gun Free Zone" sign
the politicians discuss their disgust of us
in their journal "Baloney Quarterly"
we read that too

we should not have to plant children in the ground
while this damn shadow
allows nothing
to grow
