the wheels on a cannon
deliver meals and death
fire from a flamethrower
sizzles food and flesh
stupid and smart bombs drop like water
psalms are offered before and after
justifying sacrificing your sons and daughters
and stealing bags of rice from neighbors
grenades explode like laughter

guns are used for human hunting
for fun! we've seen the recordings
military and civilian phrasing
defines military as not civilized
freewheeling into unfeeling wars
skin peeling ritualized

the chill in the air is the draft
some get a pin or patch
others a patch of grass
others drown in a flask
high high-fiving with a few limbs less

when one war ends
the next war trends
flags fly in the forgetful wind
to hypnotize us again and again
that sin can be cured by more sin
that death equals health
that poor equals wealth
invading others we occupy ourselves
