I read that a gun beats a flower
but such quips assume one understands power
true, that plant now has a hole in its vest of green
but that bullet now planted underground cannot be a seed
what goes deeper than bullets into flesh?
life running on flower colors, fruits, and scents
in battles of metal and nettle or missile and thistle
or gunpowder and pollen, pistol ultimately loses to pistil
