every residence has fencing
rows of whispering trees
wood soldiers standing guard
with their branch guns
a mighty stone wall
its rocks a gallery of strength
for some, the underside of sheets
a shield that has perfect length
to establish what is safe
what is outside, darting
only slight obstacles
when the dog is barking
