colonialism set the tone
her heart red as lava rocks
no formulaic romance
advancing with assertion
no preamble
singing a solitary tune

among the dusty books
with old fingerprint oils

the science books

oh how they'd read
in this abandoned building
of smart generations that stupid ones ruined
literally, ruins
the more they read, the more they lived
