the brook ran by
we put it in a pitcher
it slipped, now broken
gravity was the teacher

we found a new pot
and this time we held strong
by error, stole a fish from its mother
we felt wet and wrong

we returned to the stream
with our pot and hungry fish
and watched them swim away
as the water watched us watch
